Cute Treats for All

Let’s be honest here, everyone is in a bit of a financial pinch these days, and as much as we would love to spoil those around us during the holidays, it probably isn’t going to work out that way. The best way to show someone you care is to make something just for them. If you aren’t that crafty, you can still manage to create a tasty treat. Sure, everyone does holiday cookies, so let’s try something a bit different!

cute and tasty gifts

If you aren’t comfortable with your culinary skills, don’t worry! These ideas are still easy enough that anyone can do it.

First up, Marshmallow Pals! All you need are regular and mini marshmallows and either some melted chocolate or an edible ink pen. Heat a small pan to melt the mini marshmallows on one end and stick them onto the large one for arms and legs. Use a toothpick and melted chocolate to draw on a cute face, or use an edible ink marker to add details. Pack them into a bag with some hot cocoa mix, place into a mug (new or thrifted), and bang, you got a simple gift!

Next are shaped marshmallows, even easier to do! The only key here is finding flat marshmallows (some places only sell these during summer), if you can’t get them you can flatten some jumbo marshmallows instead. Pick your cookie cutters of whatever shape, but small enough to fit over the marshmallow. Keep some powdered sugar or cornstarch nearby to dip your cutter into to help the marshmallow from sticking too much. Serve at a hot cocoa bar, or give with cocoa mix.

Homemade jam! Now, I think anyone can make jam and should definitely try at least a couple times. The fun here is coming up with combinations you or your friend would really enjoy, but nothing’s wrong with sticking to the classics. Then you can get extra creative by making a label for your jam. An inside joke, alter ego, or something super cutesy, whatever you want! Pro tip: save your jars from previous condiments ahead of time so you don’t have to buy new ones.

Mug hug cookies are another simple and sweet food gift that pretty much anyone will like. The other nice part is you can make these even if you aren’t confident in baking, you can get pre-made dough and just cut the shapes you like. Nobody has to know! All you need is small cookie cutters and a knife to add the notch (which should be about 1/4” wide), then whatever icing and sprinkles you like to decorate. Again, add some cocoa or cider and a mug to complete the gift.

Wow, those aren’t too hard at all, and they make for a fun crafternoon activity! What do you think, will you try one of these for the holidays? Let me know how it turned out!
